Why you should always choose quality over quantity
‘The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.’
-Terry Pratchett
If you aren’t a fan of Terry Pratchett, there’s a good chance you aren’t familiar with Captain Samuel Vimes’s boot theory. Vimes held the belief that you could keep your feet dry with a pair of fifty-dollar boots, but that most people would buy ten-dollar boots which would leave your feet a little wet.
In ten years time, the fifty-dollar boots would still keep your feet dry, yet those who bought ten-dollar boots would have spent twice that in replacements, and still have wet feet.
Captain Vimes had a point.
As our economic climate becomes more of a concern, we need to choose carefully where our resources are best spent. It can be a difficult choice, and on occasion, we all have to compromise, but we should also not lose sight of the bigger picture.
Our mission has always been to help make that choice a little easier, by offering as much value as possible without compromising on ethics. Sustainability has always been part of our ethos, and we strive to deliver that by using only the highest quality artisans and materials.
Our commitment to Value
We are absolutely committed to using only the highest quality, 100% handwoven cotton in our products.
This commitment means that, while our products may not always be the least expensive, they will always be of the quality and durability you have come to expect from us.
By maintaining our devotion to impeccable quality standards, we aim to deliver the best possible value to our clientele. The temptation to opt for the quick and easy option is always there in all of us, but together we can work towards a more sustainable future, whilst also not breaking the bank.
After all, the lowest price rarely provides the best value.
Our commitment to Sustainability
Simply put, sustainability is ‘the avoidance of depletion of resources in order to maintain balance’
Did you know as little as 20% of all current clothing and textiles are recycled? Most unwanted clothing is incinerated or ends up in landfills. We believe we can do better.
Each item of clothing created leaves a mark on the world, through water consumption, chemical use, energy emissions, and through waste. We can all help by making better choices.
Each time we use a washer, dryer or iron, we are using energy that could be made unnecessary by investing in higher quality materials, and recycling older garments.
Our commitment to Provenance
Part of our stance on providing ethically hand-crafted goods is ensuring that we know their complete history. The fashion industry is awash with exposés of worker exploitation around the globe, notably on the high street.
This is something we simply refuse to be a part of.
All of our products are hand-crafted by Turkish artisans in an ethical manner. It’s crucial to us and to our clients that we can be certain each product was produced and bought with integrity and without compromising our ideals.
