Announcing the Pantone Colour of the Year 2021

For over 20 years, Pantone has been announcing the colour or sometimes a combination of colours for the year ahead.

A process that requires thoughtful consideration and trend analysis.

Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home furnishings, and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design.

Natasha Levy from dezeen.com claims that ”American colour company Pantone believes that the pairing of shades will help people “fortify themselves with energy, clarity, and hope” in a world that’s set to face increasing uncertainty.” And from what it seems, the uncertainty will last a little bit longer.

The Illuminating is a cheerful yellow with vivacity, a warming shade imbued with solar power.

While Ultimate Grey is emblematic of solid and dependable elements, which provide a firm foundation.

The union of an enduring Ultimate Grey with the vibrant Yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a colour combination that gives resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit.

-LEATRICE EISEMAN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE PANTONE COLOR INSTITUTE

This isn’t the first time that Pantone’s Color of the Year has come as a duo. Rose Quartz, a pale pink, and Serenity, a powdery blue, were its choices for the year 2016.
