Fundamental Reasons Why You Should Support Small Businesses.

At the start of 2020 the UK was home to 5.94 million small businesses. That includes businesses with 0 to 49 employees.

This accounts for 99.9% of the business population in the United Kingdom. Small businesses have undoubtedly played a fundamental role in the fast-paced growth of our country. Boosting economy, creating jobs and eventually supporting families and homes.

Small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) account for 50 percent of the total revenue generated by UK businesses and 44 percent of the country’s labor force. The coronavirus outbreak has already caused the closure of 234,000 small businesses in the UK since lockdown began in March.

Competition from chain stores and struggles to secure funding or manage cash flow all contribute to well-known small-business failure rates.

But small businesses are important to the economic and social fabric of our society, and we all play a part in their survival.

The spread of the global pandemic has undoubtedly affected the economy. We cannot stop this, but you can make a choice on how to help local economies stay afloat. Help small businesses have a fighting chance to rebound when we emerge from our homes. And with the Holidays being only one month away, the stress of survival is growing even bigger amongst small and local traders.

Most independent businesses are run by people – not by boards or stockholders. You get a different kind of care and quality in their product and services because their work is a small reflection of themselves. Small owners focus on the details, being the best they can be and offer uniqueness and originality.

Always support authenticity and craftsmanship. Beyond their size, small businesses are defined by their spirit.

It makes you feel like there is an actual person behind it. And when you need support in your purchases you get personalised customer support and not a copy-paste from a text book of the company’s policies. Small-business owners treasure the relationships they have with all of their customers

You get to be a contributor to the realisation of someone else’s dream.

The relationships created between customers and those that work in independent business frequently go beyond just purchases — it becomes familial.

Supporting local businesses is good for the environment because they often have a smaller carbon footprint than larger companies.

And above all, because it feels good!

For all these reasons and many more, this holiday season is the perfect time to spread cheer and offer good tidings to your local small businesses. It just feels good to support your local tradesmen!
